Son of Richter" 8", 100 Watt Powered Sub

New and available in September is Son of Richter, the newest addition to the Clements powered "di" series sub line. It comes with the same 100 watt amp and features used by its big brothers, Richter and Richter II, such as:

  • Signal Sensing
  • Hi & Low level inputs
  • Output control
  • 40-150hz continuously variable active low pass filter
  • Speaker level, 80hz passive high pass filter
  • Phase reverse switch, and
  • Video boost switch
Designed for smaller room applications of sub/satellite music systems, home theater systems, and even as a separate sub for multi-media systems, Son of Richter is your answer for such. Additionally, It is front vented to afford placement flexibility virtually anywhere, built-in, or in free space on the floor or shelf. With 16"h x 10"w x 14-3/4"d dimensions it is smaller than many bookshelf speaker models and can easily disappear in your room.

Being constructed of all MDF with clean, knife-edge corners, internally cross-braced, and finished in Italian Black Oak vinyl, it has the quality to last as well as conform to your aesthetic needs. The grill is made of solid MDF wood, not plastic, to further reduce unwanted vibration chatter, and is attached by 4 soft rubber, tapered grill pins for a tight, secure non-rattling fit. The component cutout area is tapered and the outside edges are rounded to reduce or eliminate unwanted diffraction affects. Acoustically transparent black grill cloth finishes it style.

Featuring an 8" rigid copolymer high output driver, performance is also admirable. It is almost 90dB sensitive at 1m/1w, with a low end extension cleanly to about 40 cycles, the lowest frequency on most of today's movie soundtracks, and has usable output to 32hz.

If your listening environment ranges in size from a small office or bedroom to a large apartment living room and you are looking for a little more extended bass presence take a look and listen to Son of Richter. It is a great match to almost any mini or bookshelf size full range speaker for a musical sat/sub system, and a great little sub to anchor a small to medium sized home theater system as well. Backed by the usual Clements 10 year warranty on the speaker, and 1 year parts and labor on the amplifier, Son of Richter provides quality performance with a 100watt amp and more than the usual features at a suggested retail of only $399.

The 205di Tower:

This is the newest floor-standing tower addition to the "di" series. It is the smallest of the "di" series being 36"h x 10"w x 11-3/4"d. Made to perform like larger tower models it will fit very comfortably and aesthetically into almost any size room, large or small. Effectively, it is a floor-standing version of the popular 207di bookshelf model with the extra cabinet size providing greater extended bass with more output.

The 205di is a 2-way design featuring an extended range 8" shielded driver, and a new shielded 1" silk soft dome tweeter. Like all other Clements models, the cross-over filters are 6dB/octave, open-slope design, critical for signal accuracy and revered depth and stage performance capabilities. Likewise included is an impedance compensation network for insured compatibility and top performance with any amplifier, polypropylene capacitors, and overload protection network. Moreover, the cross-over is hand-built and direct hard-wired. No cheap, inconsistent circuit board cross-overs here! A single set of gold, 5-way binding posts provide for speaker terminal hook-up.

The cabinet is again all MDF construction with clean-fit knife-edge corners and finished in Italian Black Oak vinyl for easy care and room aesthetic flexibility. The cabinet is also internally braced with 3 asymmetrical window-pane braces for added structural support and reduced cabinet vibration. Included also are 4 custom conical feet per cabinet for improved sound clarity, detail, tighter bass, and expanded depth and stage capabilities. As is typical of all Clements "di" models, the grill is made of solid MDF wood, not plastic, to further reduce unwanted vibration chatter, and attached by 4 soft rubber, tapered grill pins for a tight, secure non-rattling fit. The component cutout area is tapered and the outside edges are rounded to reduce or eliminate unwanted diffraction affects. Black, acoustically transparent grill cloth finishes the style.

In performance the 205di is 90dB sensitive at 1m/1w, making it compatible with even small 30 watt power amps. Maximum amp power is 200watts. Frequency response is exceptionally smooth from 38hz to 20K with useable output down to 30hz. As importantly, the impedance curve is also very smooth being less than +/- only 3 degrees from 80hz to 20K due to the filter slope technology and impedance compensation network. This means 2 things. One, it will be easy for any amp to drive the speaker, and two, electrical phase shift is minimal, which typically translates to superb depth, stage and imaging capabilities, both on and off axis.

Taking up less than a square foot of floor space the 205di tower is a full range, high-performance speaker with excellent dynamic capability. Whether your tastes are for warm, musical detail appreciation, or the power of home theater surround sound movies, or both, the 205di's are a terrific anchor for a quality home system. Backed by the Clements industry leading 10 Year Warranty, the 205di incorporates many qualities and features found only in much higher priced speakers yet its suggested retail is only $699 a pair.

Product Modifications:

Both the Richter 10" powered subwoofer and the 206di floor-standing models are now front vented. So many folks today are installing or inclosing their speakers in Audio/video cabinet furniture that it negates or limits the use of rear vented speaker cabinet designs if top sound performance is desired. Certainly, this is true for powered subs. If, however, high pass filters are employed for the satellite speakers then there is little to worry about from a rear vent because there is little or no output. Not being able to guarantee that a system would be set up this way, i.e, using a high pass filter, and to response to so many requests for such I have redesigned both models with front-venting. This will also now allow for a little more room placement flexibility for both models as well to go along with the same top quality performance people have come to expect from Clements.
